Wudang Style Kungfu for Health
The way of the
Daoist has always been the following:
The way to winning a fight is not to be there when the punch lands!
This means a few things:
- Be prepared
- Move out of the force and guide it past
- Tea before fight (Try and resolve first)
- Fight the Disease with kungfu
Please remember that should one want the maximum Health benefit that any form of Kung Fu can provide, one must study it's whole content, as a martial art. Sort of like trying to study medicine but only learning Herbs if you do not know how the body works. The fundamental part of martial art is martial art, thus to gain health from it would be to study the fundamental, and here is why.
When you do an arm movement and want to combine qigong with the movement, you would need to know where your intent (yi) or focus is. To find where the Yi is, can only be found in the application, which is the way it would be used in combat. Thus studying the reasons the body moves, is paramount to attaining the qi (energy) flow and thus finding the path to health.
For example just doing slow taiji (tai chi) without learning its combat method and thus learning it's yi would be doing a useless exercise. This does not mean you would now need to go out and do combat, but study it, in the same way a doctor would study how a virus attacks the body in order for him to prevent it, he does not need to go out and get the virus to actually study.
This, (UNFORTUNATELY COMMON), practise of doing Taiji or any of the forms (routines) without knowing the combat and without driving the qi with yi, is what is called Empty Taiji. This is the WORST TAIJI as Wudang Arts are Internal arts and having no internal is futile. This empty taiji might look pretty with nice slow movements but it is exactly that, Pretty Slow Movements, and NOTHING else.
We reccommend a healthy Balance diet, Meditation, and qigong to supplement Kungfu. The only reason one would not do qigong/meditation is when the player has attained a high enough skill in the Taiji form to beable to incorporate it into the form practise.
Some of the Wudang Style rules to health would be:
- Tapping or rubbing your entire, (everywhere), body often or daily
- NO alcohol ever
- NO smoking EVER
- Sex once a week
- Form practice High and Low, Fast and slow every day
- Slow only is not good
- Fast only is worse
